What are Intravitreal Injections?

Intravitreal injections are a medical procedure in which medication is injected directly into the eye's vitreous humour. Intravitreal Injection Procedure

The procedure is usually performed in the clinic and involves very little discomfort. The procedure involves:

  • Numbing the eye with topical anaesthetic drops.
  • The eye will then be washed with an antiseptic solution.
  • The injection is performed through the side of the eye - the patient will not see any needle/injection.
  • Most patients will usually need to repeat this procedure regularly to maintain good vision.
